Advertising Policy
The advertising policy followed by pendulum.org and related web sites is that all advertising must come from an advertiser that is offering products or services that are of potential benefit to people with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and that have been either scientifically proven to be effective in treating the relevant mental disorder (as judged by the AMA, NIMH, FDA or other regulatory body, or (if it is a book or web site) the advertised site must reference the scientific studies that support the stories or information provided on the web site.
Advertisers have no input on any stories that the site decides to cover not not to cover.
Non-profit groups and research study advertising must be registered national non-profits focused on helping people with the relevent mental health problems, or be NIMH-funded research studies that are in the public's best interest. (Note: the majority of advertisements on the pendulum.org and schizophrenia.com web sites are of the non-profit type).
The type of advertising that our sites accept are banner ads, and text link ads (similar in size and format to Google ads) - each of which will be placed in areas that are identified as advertising immediately above the ads. This is the only type of advertising accepted.
Types of advertising not accepted: any type that is different from that described above. For example, no paid editorials are accepted.
A very significant proportion of advertisements (it varies between 20% and 80% with an average on any given month of approximately 60%) going to non-profit ads focused on raising money for research into better treatments for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, or for new NIMH-funded studies related to treatment for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
