What is Pendulum?

What are the Pendulum Pages?

The Pendulum Pages are a collection of information and links about manic-depression and other mood disorders. We are loosely affiliated with the Pendulum Mailing List founded by Ed Arnold and El Gordo in March of 1993. Ed and Gordo met on a men's issues email list, and discovered commonalities and friendship. The web site was transferred to Doug Barlow in April, 1996 and has since undergone a complete upgrading and transformation.

DOUG: "The Pendulum Pages and the mailing list have been an important part of dealing with my diagnosis of manic-depression. The diagnosis is not easy for many of us to accept and carries a stigma in our culture. Sharing information is an important part of overcoming the stigma and is healing! That's what these pages are about…"

In 1997-1998 Doug took a sabbatical, during which Bud maintained the site.

Doug: "I am again webmaster for Pendulum. There's lots of cobwebs to clean out in the site, and it's the holiday season, so changes will take place slowly.
"As always, Pendulum has no commercial banners and is supported entirely through volunteer work. Our association with Amazon.com allows us a token income through the sale of books. Check out our bookstore while you are here. Your purchases help keep Pendulum available for the world."

In May 1999 daedalus, who chooses to remain anonymous due to employment issues, took custodianship of Pendulum Resources.

daedalus:
"There is still a stigma attached to Mental Illness, even to an illness as mild and as treatable as Bipolar type II. (I have found a combination of medications that works well for me without cognitive side-effects.) When I began maintaining Pendulum Resources, the search logs immediately indicated that paranoia can be A Good Thing. For legal reasons I can't go into further detail. I'm usually "out" at work, but I don't roar into a job interview shouting that I'm bipolar. I don't shout that I'm in Mensa either... Which do you think gets the worst reaction from people? :-)
"I'm an electrical engineer by trade, currently unemployed and using my time off to fix up Pendulum Resources.
"Some of my interests are Reiki, maintaining web pages, alternative healing, reading any non-fiction, reading sci-fi, computer programming, and bipolar support - both giving and receiving.
"The site is undergoing major redesign as of 11/2002." There is now one commercial banner and one link exchange on the site. Most of the support for Pendulum Resources is obtained from book sales through Amazon.com. The rest comes out of my shallow pockets.
"I'm on the Pendulum email list: See you there!"
