Interesting study! I know someone who was suffering from depression and was taking zoloft I believe. The thing is, he was falling sleep all over the place and didn't suffer from insomnia at all. I don't think that he was undergoing sleep deprivation therapy!

Hey, I've been having insomnia for awhile now. However, just recently I was chatting with folks over at the live forever site at http://letslivelonger.blogspot.com/2009/04/sleep-better-you-can-do-it.html and together we worked through some of my scheduling, diet and exercise routines and I am starting to sleep better. Thanks guys!

As a clinician, I probably wouldn't advise my bipolar clients to deprive themselves of sleep. My experience is that sleep deprivation may short circuit a major depression, but it tends to tilt bipolar patients into a major manic phase.

I've had recurrent dssrepeion for decades, sometimes lasting a month or two, sometimes a year or more. The worst for me is how much my dssrepeion hurts on the inside, how much it makes me loathe and hate myself -- but that's the dssrepeion screwing up the chemicals, the neurotransmitters, in my brain and telling me lies. It really makes me feel hopeless, though, makes me beat myself in the head. The most recent episode, Depression led me to go shopping for a weapon because I just didn't think I could hold on any longer. I decided to go into the hospital because I knew I would die if I didn't. This was last year, after 3 years of worsening dssrepeion, despite meds and therapy and all. I'm healthy now. though, and glad I'm alive. It is, indeed, crucial to remember that you will feel better someday and that the negative messages your brain tells you are NOT true. And to keep asking for help when things are bad. Was this answer helpful?
