I have resided for the past 18 years in the Aymara population altiplano area of Peru and Bolivia. I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar I and had to come to the States for a year for treatment, etc. I anticipate returning to my Aymara friends in Peru and Bolivia. I spoke with one such friend recently on the phone that I would imagine that the Aymara population would also have individuals who have bipolar. I asked if she knew if the healers (qolliris) and wise people (yatiris) recognized the symptoms and what they do to address it. She said she would ask. I was wondering what information you might have or if you knew where I might get it. I am also looking for a psychiatrist in La Paz (or elsewhere in Bolivia) who would be able to be up to date on bipolar treatment. If there is anyone in La Paz or a group which is working with people who have bipolar, I would be interested in knowing them and helping their efforts. Thanks, Cati (Catherine)

Many thanks in advance.
